I am looking into getting small tractor to mow my 5 acres of grass (some is lawn grass, some is timothy/clover) I live in seattle area, so it is often wet when I get a chance to mow. If I wait for it to be nice, the timothy/clover is 15" or taller. Not an easy task for my Toro Wheelhorse I have right now.So what is better for mowing in all conditions, wet or dry. And does a flail mower give a good quality of finish? My soil is pretty rocky, so I don't think I will sink in too bad. If I can mow wet or dry, I will be able to keep the length to a managable length.I have also considered getting a used green Front Mower (new costs way to much for just a mower). I want at least a 72" mower, so that I spend less time mowing, and if it is nice, I want to get it all done.Thanksjoel

Joel,I've been going thru the same decision process. Please see the very useful comments I got to my question on the Machinery Forum. I recently talked with the head of Landscaping at our small local college. He runs a Ford Flail seven hours a day, five days a week. He feels that the best cut is given by a reel type next is flail and last is rotary. His only problem has been "new help" running over hugh rocks and bending the rotor, resulting an expensive repair. Since you know your property and own the equipment, rotor damage shouldn't be a problem for you. I don't know what tractor you use, but look a JD 25A and 300 series, Befco Hurracane & Rhino. All have come with good recommendations around here.Good Luck,Bob ....
